Dr. Zuckerman has served on the faculty of the University of Maryland since 1983. Prior to being appointed Chair of the PHSR Department in 2008, she served as Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education in the School of Pharmacy.
Dr. Zuckerman’s research focuses on improving drug therapy in vulnerable populations. She is Principal Investigator on a career development grant funded by the National Institute on Aging to examine risk factors for transitions to nursing home among community-dwelling elderly. Her research also includes the study of anti-dementia drugs in elderly patients in community and institutional settings. She also serves as associate director of the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s DEcIDE (Developing Evidence to Inform Decisions about Effectiveness) Center, one of 13 research centers supported by the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. She also has extensive experience in analysis of large databases for the study of patterns of drug utilization as Principal Investigator on a contract to the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare to provide analytic, clinical and technical expertise for their Medicaid drug program. In addition to analysis of administrative claims to identify potentially inappropriate drug therapy, this contract also required evaluation of the effectiveness of educational and administrative programs implemented to improve drug use. As founder and Director of Pharmaceutical Research Computing (PRC), which provides computing and support (including data warehousing and data analysis) to faculty within and outside of the University, Dr. Zuckerman can provide expertise in the analysis of secondary databases. Dr. Zuckerman teaches graduate courses in research methods. She also participates in the PharmD curriculum and curricular development. |
