John Schumacher received a B.S. in Chemistry from John Carroll University, an M.A. in Applied Ethics from Bowling Green State University, and both his M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from Case Western Reserve University.
As a medical sociologist specializing in social gerontology, Dr. Schumacher’s research has focused on physician-patient relationships across a range of settings including hospital emergency departments, physician offices, and assisted living facilities/long-term care.  In addition, he conducts research into older adult cancer survivors, successful aging, biomedical ethics, and dementia care.
