Christine A. Mair, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
Department of Sociology and Anthropology
University of Maryland, Baltimore County

Christine A. Mair, Ph.D.Christine A. Mair received B.A. degrees (2005) in Anthropology and Sociology from the University of Florida and received her M.S. (2007) and Ph.D. (2011) degrees in Sociology from North Carolina State University.

The unifying theme of her research is the theoretical and empirical importance of promoting well-being for diverse, aging populations through informal (e.g., friend ties, social capital, intergenerational exchanges, neighborhood characteristics) and formal (e.g., pension policy, global economics, and local community) processes. Specifically, she examines how the relationship between social ties and well-being varies by gender, race/ethnicity, national culture and economics, and spatial location (rural versus urban areas, neighborhood characteristics, etc.) in the US and cross-nationally.
