Louise S. Jenkins, PhD, RN,FAHA Co-Director, Institute for Educators in Nursing & Health Professions, University of Maryland School of Nursing Co-Director, Clinical Education and Evaluation Laboratory, University of Maryland School of Nursing Louise Jenkins received a BS degree in nursing from Northern Illinois University, De Kalb, Illinois and both MS and PhD degrees from the University of Maryland Baltimore. She did post-doctoral work as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at the University of California, San Francisco and concurrently held an appointment as an Adjunct Nurse Researcher at Stanford University Hospital.
Dr. Jenkins’ program of research has focused on individual aspects of cardiac recovery and patient outcomes. She has worked extensively with social cognitive theories and developed multiple measures of self-efficacy expectation, behavior, and outcomes such as quality of life that are in use throughout the international cardiac research community. Additional work in the area of quality of life has included serving as consultant and developer of the quality of life component of two major NHLBI sponsored clinical trials: Antiarrhythmics versus Implantable Defibrillators (AVID) and Atrial Fibrillation Follow-up: Investigation of Rhythm Management (AVID). Her particular expertise in the area of measurement is sought after in consultation. She is preparing for future work in application of modern measurement theories to the more classical approaches used in clinical trials. She has written widely in the areas of quality of life and patient/partner outcomes, chaired the Council on Cardiovascular Nursing of the American Heart Association, and is a fellow of the American Heart Association. She is president of Pi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, which is one of the largest in the world. |
