Dawn E. Alley, Ph. D.

Dawn Alley holds a Ph.D. in Gerontology from the University of Southern California.  After receiving a Ph.D. in 2006, Dr. Alley was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health and Society Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania.

Her research interests include obesity, inflammation, and socioeconomic health disparities in disability, subjects on which she has published a number of articles in high-profile peer-reviewed journals, including JAMA, American Journal of Public Health, Archives of Internal Medicine, and Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. Through her background in demography and gerontology, she has extensive training in longitudinal methods and analysis of complex survey data and a commitment to understanding how lifecourse social and biological influences drive health disparities.  She currently coordinates a study of stress and metabolic syndrome in hip fracture caregivers and collaborates on a number of research projects related to obesity and late-life health.
